Hello women and identifying individuals of UMOC,
Over the past 3 years I have had the pleasure of interacting with this amazing community and culture that we call UMOC. Coming to UMass with no experience in the outdoors, I have learned so much about going outside and teaching other people about outdoor leadership and education. But this hasn’t been an easy journey for me. In a club with so many experienced individuals, being a woman in the outdoors, I often feel “not good enough.” Even now, as the President of the largest RSO on campus, these insecurities related to my gender and identity are still ever present. My hope for this group is to create a space for support and empowerment. -Sierra
The purpose of this group is to provide a safe space where women and identifying individuals can support one another, share experiences and stories, and claim our power— claim our autonomy.
To start off, we’ll be hosting bi-weekly hikes and outdoor activities for women and female identifying individuals. Feel free to participate in whatever capacity you want, whether you come once or every other week, this space is for you!
